I'm about halfway through my mission now. I can't even believe it. Will y'all pray for time to slow down please? Haha it truly has flown by though!
Sister Shumate is my new companion: she from Germany most recently, but was raised in the U.S. She is 20. She went to BYUI for a two semesters. She is very sweet, kind, and close to the spirit. She has a calm temperament, but we've already been able to joke around and mess with each other. She was called to the Idaho Falls Temple Visitors Center and has served there her whole mission, oh yeah which is 10 months. She is on her mini "outbound" for a few months and then will go back to the visitors center before the end of her mission.
We've been together for 6 days and have been able to see miracles as a companionship already. One lesson we had recently proved to us how much the Lord really does be his instruments to relay what he wants our investigators to hear. We were stopping by Gian's house, not a planned meeting, and he was surprisingly there and let us in. Sister Shumate had never met him and I had filled her in with the little I knew about him. We discussed what we had taught him in the previous lesson and then asked if he had any questions since that time. He told us he did not have any.
We felt inspired to ask him about his family. He proceeded to tell us, in essence, the love he has for them, yet the lack of closeness they have. This lead into us asking him the question, "Do you know where you're going after this life?" Gian leaned back a little and ponders on the question. He then tells us about an experience he had that made him fear thinking about that.
We gave him a Plan of Salvation pamphlet and asked him to read it. We told him that he could know for himself what God has in store for his children after this life. We told him this was possible through prayer. We taught him how to simply, but fervently, pray to his father in heaven. We explained how it is just like talking to his father, but his Heavenly Father always wants to hear from him and always wants to help.
So this unplanned and unexpected lesson turned out to be unbelievable. Gian has a long way to go, but if Sister Shumate and I continue to teach and testify with the spirit and in unity, it will all work out.
I love you all, I love the Holy Ghost, and I love Christ our savior.

Perks of serving in Idaho.... the ice cream truck stops you and tells you that they want to give you free ice cream then proceeds to take a picture of you and post it on their Instagram
