I'm excited for these next few weeks. Three baptisms scheduled and a new semester starts at BYUI which means a new group of non-members! It's going to be GRAND.
So we road our bikes this week to an appointment. Hahahahahaha what an experience. Bikes+Helmets+Bags+Wind+Skirts=one FUN ride. Let me just draw this picture for you; So we load up the bikes on the rack and drive out to our stake center. We get to the stake center and gear up. Helmets on and bags situated so they don't get in the way. We begin our journey and quickly realize that we are not going forward very fast because the wind is pushing us at the same force backwards. Every 5 seconds we have to pull our skirts down because the wind has made them ride up. My helmet is crooked and very attractive, I might add. I am in front and Sister Jorgensen is behind me trying to talk to me but I can't hear a word because of the wind. We get about half way and Sister Jorgensen says she has no feeling in her legs. I tell her we're almost there but it takes us another 20 minutes to get there. Once we get there we get off our bikes and go to our lesson. The person had a lesson with wasn't home. We later find out that we biked 5 miles in 40 minutes, not too bad in a skirt. We got someone to take us back to the church and we ditched the bikes at her house. It was fun, we'll do it again, but definitely plan it better!
So here's my letter to President that outlines the week well.
President,
It was so good to see you and Sister Brinkerhoff at interviews. That night we set a baptism date for April 26th with a student on campus. He already had a date for May 4th but we knew he was ready so we invited him to be baptized earlier and he accepted. It's amazing the comprehension he has. He said in our first lesson that when he prayed about the Book of Mormon, he sort of expected to receive a big answer that would MAKE him be baptized. Our third lesson he said that he was ready to be baptized because he knew just by the little feelings he's had while reading and the spirit he feels on campus that he knows it's the right thing to do. His family is not LDS but are perfectly fine with his decision to become a member. That's really what the cause of students not getting baptized is...their family. BUT, I do know that if we teach with the spirit, those fears will diminish and dwindle away.
On Saturday we took our new investigator, David, to the other sister's baptism. He enjoyed it. We then had a lesson in the church on the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Jamison, David's friend who is a return missionary, is the PERFECT MEMBER PRESENT. I can't even describe how he has made me learn how having members present in lessons is so important. David is a really relaxed guy, as well as Jamison, but Jamison asks David questions in our lessons that if we, as missionaries asked, wouldn't be received as well. We had told Jamison that we believe David is ready for baptism and that we were going to invite him. So Jamison leads our lesson at the church towards asking David if he will be baptized. When we did, David was a little taken back. He said he felt a pit in his stomach. Jamison, Sister Jorgensen, and I quickly helped David understand that with strong faith, and the help of the Lord through our lessons, he will be ready. After much more discussion and talking over concerns, David accepted to be baptized on April 25th. The spirit has taught David. Two weeks ago when he read the Book of Mormon for the first time, he said he felt a calmness come over him and he said a prayer. As he did so, what had been a hectic and stressful day, turned into a happy and peaceful day. So David has felt the spirit and he has openly told us this. Now it just takes a leap of faith!
This fast Sunday was very "successful" you could say. We attended a ward at nine o'clock with Tanya, then went to class with her. We attended sacrament meeting at eleven o'clock with David, then went to class with him. We attended sacrament at one o'clock with Jr. which surprised us because we didn't know he was coming. So, as you and Sister Brinkerhoff have requested, we bore our testimonies in three different sacrament meetings. PERKS OF SERVING IN REXBURG. I love it. I get to do what we as missionaries do best...bear testament of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and his restored gospel.
Hope all is well and you and Sister Brinkerhoff have a great day!
Love,
Sister Fredrick
Another beautiful and miraculous week in Rexburg. I see the Lord's hand in our work more and more each and every day. I know my Savior lives and loves me. This is a special time of the year when we can take joy in the resurrection of Christ. He lives! And because of him, so can we. There is a video on Mormon.org called "Because of Him" that the church just put outthis Sunday. I invite you guys to watch it an reflect upon the Savior's atonement. I love you with all my heart. Have a great week and remember the true meaning of Easter!
