Heavenly Father Doesn't Give Us Doubts

We had a pretty good week. I just realized that I always write we...companions become like a part of you. I love Sister Jacobson. She's the most spastic, impulsive, exuberant, humble, righteous, obedient, and crazy hard working missionary ever! We have become one, not to say that i'm exactly those things, but it's like a marriage, you pick up habits and quirks from your companion. Something I've picked up from Sister Jacobson is a pick yourself up, dust yourself off, get back on track attitude. You know, things aren't what you would call "thriving" in our area right now. BUT HEY we've got the attitude of gratitude and we won't let a lack of solid investigators get us down. There's a saying in the mission that I really like! "There are no dead areas, just dead attitudes." Holy Cow this is so true. I've seen it first hand, I've seen it in different companionship's, and I've seen it in members that we've worked with. Attitude is everything. Dad, i'm sure you're thinking, "I wish, Sambo, that you would have realized that earlier, maybe in some of your tennis matches and swimming events." Yeah, I'm thinking the same thing too. Now I see the bigger picture. What really matters most. What takes the cake.

This morning during personal study I was reading in Alma 31. Verse 5 reads:

"And now, as the preaching of the word had a great tendency to lead the people to do that which was just—yea, it had had more powerful effect upon the minds of the people than the sword, or anything else, which had happened unto them—therefore Alma thought it was expedient that they should try the virtue of the word of God."

Alma and his group of missionaries are out to help the apostate Zoramites. They could have easily gone in and changed the ways of the people by the sword, or by force, but instead they realize that the word of God, the spirit, is what's best. I know this attitude is the best. I know that as we speak with others, when we are trying to help others, it needs to be out of love. Out of the desire to help them progress towards Christ, not to bolster ourselves up or out of spite. When we talk with people who do not share our beliefs, or desire to tear down our beliefs, this is the only way to handle it and be successful in the Lord's eyes.

This week we began talking to an older gentleman on the street about the Book of Mormon. It lead to him denouncing every thing we live and love and the spirit completely leaving the scene. Sister Jacobson and I just listened respectfuly and let him say his two cents..or 25 cents. I wanted to correct him because it hurts me to think that he is living in so much anger and misery, but I have learned to do what Alma did. I bore my testimony, shared the virtue of God, and said goodbye. I prayed for him, as Alma does later on in the chapter. I was a little down, but I found comfort in Christ soon after (vs 31 and 35.) We can ALWAYS find comfort in Christ. "Doubt your doubts before you doubt your faith."-Uchtdorf.

Heavenly Father doesn't give us doubts. Throughout the scriptures, men and women are give a "stupor of thought" but never doubts. We are told to ask questions, search, ponder, and pray. When it turns into doubt, Satan is creeping in. Just something I've been thinking about! I love you all from the bottom of my heart and I feel so much joy from your words of love and advice. Keep it coming!

Love youuus,
Sister Fredrick

President,

We were able to go on exchanges this week. I had the privilege of being with Sister Smith. Of course you know the changes that have been going on with her companions and area, and it sort of lead me to be a little nervous for our time together. The night started off rough when we found that we did not have a phone, there was no alarm in the apartment because they had transferred everything to the central 1 apartment earlier that week, and then it was 10 o'clock so we couldn't go anywhere to look for it. I told Sister Smith that I would make sure we got up on time...risky promise on my part but we both prayed that we would be able to get up on time and not sleep in. It worked out. I ended up waking up every two hours to get up and check the clock. It's amazing that I was able to function the next day!

We weekly planned together and were able to work through her goals since she is solo setting goals in her area right now. I was able to help her understand that when we pray, we should pray with the intent to act and be specific with the needs of the people we are working with. Also, that we should pay close attention to the spirit as we say the prayer and go through the steps of weekly planning because if we invited the spirit to guide us, it will, so we need to be ready for it.

We had one lesson set up with someone getting baptized, but other than that we had an open day of contacting. We were able to teach three lessons to investigators and were able to uplift two less-active members. Sister Smith said at the end of the exchange, "Every day can be productive!"
She is such a spirit-lead missionary and desires to always do what is exactly right. I learned a lot from her. One thing specifically she taught me was how to press on even though things seem to never stop changing. She been tough these past few weeks and I gave her props for that! I love Sister Smith and am grateful for her hard work and diligence.

Our area has so much potential. So many people who are on the edge of becoming a solid and progressing investigator, but cannot seem to find the time or prioritize their time. Teeter-tottering on giving it their all or brushing it aside for the time being. I know big things are coming, I just have to keep the faith.

Love,
Sister Fredrick

p.s. I'm excited for interviews and tennis again!
