New missionaries came in this week and President and Sister Brinkerhoff asked Sister Jake and I to come and help out with orientation. We were able to meet all of the new missionaries, help them get comfortable, and tell funny mission stories. They were all pretty nervous, but well prepared to do work in Idaho. One of the sisters is from Alabama and we have a couple mutual friends. There were actually 3 missionaries in this transfer from the south.
We got to play in a softball game with one of our wards this week. We had so much fun and were able to get several investigators there. YSA work is the greatest because there are so many fun activities that draw college kids in. We just have to invite!
SO SUPER funny. While we were in the mission home meeting the new missionaries, President and I were able to talk a little. When I was telling him about the ping-pong story, we got to talking about tennis too. He challenged me to a game of tennis today. Our deal was if he wins, we have to have at least two baptisms this month. If I win, he has to do the finding of the two people that will get baptized. Either way I win! We've already got four people lined up to get baptized...but of course I want to work harder to have more! I'm a little nervous. Haven't played for almost eight months. That's odd. No tennis for eight months. I love what I'm doing so much though. I haven't missed it, but today will be nice :)
Love yous alls!
Sister Fredrick
President,
How great is this work?! We were able to teach 24 lessons this week, and 19 of them were with investigators with a member present! As Sister Jacobson and I were discussing what's been happening lately, we truly see how our new recitation is being unfolded in our area. A couple experiences lately have proven it.
For starters, we decided to give ping-pong and fooseball another shot because it worked pretty well last time. As we were driving to the institute, we passed a guy on the sidewalk who was listening to his ipod. I got an impression that we needed to talk to him right then and there. We parked and ran to the sidewalk he was on, then slowed down so we looked casual. As we came closer we said hey and waved but he didn't see us. We like ducked down so he could see us because he was looking down. He quickly took his headphones off and we sparked up a conversation. His name is Marcelo, from Idaho, student at ISU, has a little bit of knowledge about God, and was very open. We extended the challenge and this time he chose to play fooseball so Sister Jacobson took this one. She won and then we were able to show him around the institute. In one room there are the pictures of the First Presidency and the Quorum of the Twelve. He said he recognized them and asked a lot of questions about the Prophet. We were able to share most of the restoration with him. We then took him to the chapel and explained the sacrament and how we view our relationship with Christ and Heavenly Father. At the end, we asked him how he felt throughout the tour. He said that he was feeling very stressed and worried about school and work and was having a bad day, and then when we invited him to play and gave him the tour, he felt a peace. He felt calm and knew that everything was going to be okay. He said he would be baptized once he learned more and felt like all we said was true. We set up a return appointment and are going to teach him this week.
Things like this show me that the Lord knows that when we are going to heed the spirits promptings, he will bless us with more promptings. I don't believe at the beginning of my mission, or even at the beginning of this transfer, I would have recognized those promptings as the spirit, but now I KNOW that it was.
On Sunday, we had a impromptu lesson with someone who came to church and asked us if we could share more with him. We taught the restoration and he loved it. He committed to a baptism date on the spot. AND he came to the fireside last night and said, "This was like the dessert to the meal we had earlier today." Kevin has been prepared. He knows the truth when he hears it and is very in-tune with the spirit.
This week was beautiful. Every night Sister Jacobson and I came home dead tired but SO filled with happiness and joy. We cannot comprehend the blessings we have seen this week, and honestly do not feel worthy of all that is happening. But then again, we've put the recitation, D&C 64:33-34, to the test and the Lord never breaks promises.
Love,
Sister Fredrick
P.S. Can't wait to play you in ping-pong and tennis today. Not going to lie, i'm a little nervous!
