I don't know how long I'll be here, but I sure don't mind it. Knowing most everyone is nice. I love walking into a room or meeting and knowing almost everyone and everyone knowing me!
President,
This week was splendid! Most of the highlights revolved around Marisa's baptism Saturday night. For our last lesson before baptism, we like to take our investigator to the baptism font where they will be baptized and read scriptures pertaining to the ordinance. We then run through the logistics of the coming day. So we were driving up to the stake center for the lesson and we see Marisa, Wyatt (who is baptizing Marisa), and another woman. We walk up to them and come to find out it is Marisa's mother! We were so surprised because her mother originally opposed the idea of her daughter being baptized. We took advantage of this opportunity to help Marisa's mother learn more about what Marisa's decision entailed and what the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints believes. We went to the chapel and discussed the importance of partaking of the sacrament weekly to renew the baptismal covenant in which she was about enter into. We then went to the font and read 3 Nephi 11. Marisa's mom read along with us! Near the end, she was telling us stories of Marisa's childhood and was very comfortable with us. She even joined us for our closing prayer, which was kneeling, as we always do at the close of our lessons.
If anything, Marisa's mom could not deny the fact that we believe in Jesus Christ and do everything in His name. From the sacrament, to the account of Christ's ministry to the people in the America's, it's undeniable. She thoroughly enjoyed the baptism and was fully supportive. To think that this was one of the hold-ups for Marisa in the beginning...just shows me how much Heavenly Father is willing to do in our behalf if we just follow his commandments.
So, pre-baptism and present-baptism were both a complete and total success. Now for the post-baptism! Nessa, our recent convert, had an allergy attack. Yes this could obviously be viewed as a negative, BUT what stemmed from it is something I will never forget.
When Nessa has an allergy attack, she runs outside for fresh air. For about 10 minutes none of us could find her, she was on the phone with one of the members and all of a sudden she couldn't talk. We finally found her. She was laying down on the grass on the other side of the building. She was struggling for air, couldn't talk, and was having sharp pains in her sides. After trying to see what we could do to help, we ran and got Bishop Anderson and Brother Hobbs. They came and gave Nessa a priesthood blessing of health. Present were several members and 4 non-members who each bowed their head in reverence as the blessing was given. Immediately after the blessing was closed, Nessa started to regain her strength. She was able to get up and walk and breathe. Those present felt the spirit very strongly and I could just feel the love from Bishop Anderson and Brother Hobbs for Nessa.
This isn't the last thing that happened Saturday night! We then rejoined the others and ate refreshments. After almost everyone had gone, Sister Shumate and I felt like we should take those non-members on a church tour. We did exactly that and they loved it! The spirit definitely lead our day. I am so grateful for that and much much more!
Our sisters are doing great. We arranged a sisters activity today for the sisters we serve and the Highland Sister Training Leader's sisters, as well. We are having a lunch and activity at the Hoyjbergs. It should bring love and unity to each companionship and all the sisters in general.
I hope you have a delightful time at the Mission Presidents Seminar. Hopefully all stays in order while you're gone :)
Love,
